setup.com /preparedomain  in child domain
Dears, i have empty root domain with 2 child domains, Exchange 2003 Servers are deployed in child domains, we have RUS for each child domain but don't have RUS for Root domain, Now, we are planning for Installing Exchange 2010 in root domain & Move mailboxes from Exchange 2003 Servers in child domains to Exchange 2010.. the question now, do i have to run command setup.com /PREPAREDOMAIN on child domains where i won't have Exchange 2010...also do i have to create RUS for Root domain before Exchange 2010 Preparation? thanks & waiting for your kind help

Hi, You don't have to create a RUS for the root domain since Exchange 2010 doesn't use that anyway, it has been replaced in the newer versions of Exchange. You don't have to run /PrepareDomain in the child that aren't going to use Exchange 2010, but when you deploy Exchange 2010 it restricts you from deploying any older version of Exchange to the forest. I would recommend you to run /PrepareAllDomains so the forest is ready for Exchange 2010 in both child domains. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Hello, You must run this command in every domain in which you will install Exchange 2010. You must also run this command in every domain that will contain mail-enabled users, even if the domain doesn't have Exchange 2010 installed. you would need to prepare child domains unless you consolidate domains to root domain Dhruv
